ITG CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIPS AUDITIONS
The International Trumpet Guild announces scholarships provided by members of the music industry and by the Renold Schilke, Clifton G. Plog, Donald P. Bullock, and "Sandy" Sandberg Memorial Scholarship Funds.

ITG YOUTH COMPETITION
The ITG, in its efforts to encourage young performers, presents two competitions for players of all soprano brass instruments (trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, E-flat cornet). Students are invited to participate in the competitions which will take place at the annual ITG Conference each summer. Conference location changes from year to year. Depending on the number of entrants, there may be a preliminary round prior to the finals which would also will be held during the course of the confernece. Candidates will be provided with written comments from a distinquished panel of judges.
Ages: under 18 years old as of February 15 of the competition year

LAGRANGE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA YOUNG ARTISTS COMPETITION

About the Editor:
Dr. Brian Shook is an Assistant Professor of Music at Lamar University where he teaches trumpet, tuba, and euphonium. Prior to arriving at Lamar, Shook served as an adjunct brass instructor at Towson University (Baltimore, MD) and American University (Washington D.C.). He has also assisted with the United States Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps as their brass technician.
From 2004 to 2009, Shook toured the United States with The King’s Brass, which gives over 120 concerts each year. In addition to performing, Shook is involved in numerous aspects of the International Trumpet Guild as a reviewer of CDs, music, and books for the ITG Journal. He is also the website editor of the ITG’s Summer Youth Camps web page.
Shook received his Bachelor of Music degree from Cedarville University where he studied trumpet with Charles Pagnard. He continued his studies in music as a trumpet teaching assistant with David Hickman at Arizona State University, completing a Master of Music degree in 2003 and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in 2006. Shook has also studied with Andrew Balio (Baltimore Symphony), Patrick Sheridan (world-class tuba soloist), and Emery Harvison (Phoenix Symphony). While in Phoenix, he performed with the Phoenix Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, Phoenix Bach Choir, Symphony of the West Valley, and the Salt River Brass Band (soprano cornet). Shook is also the principal trumpet of the Symphony of Southeast Texas and performs frequently with the Lake Charles Symphony and Rapides Symphony.
In April 2011, Shook published his first book through UNT Press entitled Last Stop, Carnegie Hall: New York Philharmonic Trumpeter William Vacchiano.
